The Genre That Wouldn’t Let Me Put the Book Down

In my last blog, I talked about romance vs thriller and mentioned that both these genres deserve a blog of their own. So here I am, starting with one of those genres—the one that keeps me awake, makes my heart race, and never lets me stop at just one chapter.
Yes, this blog is all about thrillers.
For beginners, most people usually start with romance or thrillers. I started with romance. I loved it—but after a point, I didn’t really know what to read next. And sometimes, when you read too many romantic novels back-to-back, they can start to feel a little repetitive. Not saying it happens to everyone—but it definitely happened to me.
That’s when thrillers entered the picture. And today, I can confidently say that romance and thrillers are my go-to genres. But thrillers? They’re different. They’re the kind of books that don’t let you rest. The kind that make you say, “I’ll stop after this chapter,” and then suddenly the book is finished and it’s way past bedtime.
My first thriller novel was The Girl from Room 105 by Chetan Bhagat. Back then, this book was everywhere—on bestseller lists, social media, and recommended by almost everyone. Curious to try something new, I ordered a few books from different genres, and when they finally arrived, I picked this one up first.
Slowly, the story pulled me in.
What starts as a personal journey soon turns into a gripping murder mystery filled with secrets, investigations, and unexpected twists. The suspense, the pace, and the constant need to know what really happened kept me hooked. That was the moment I realised—thrillers were my thing.
After finishing that book, my interest only grew. I wanted more stories that would keep me guessing, make my heart race, and refuse to let me put the book down.
And that’s when I read The Housemaid by Freida McFadden.
That book? A completely different level. Once I finished it, I immediately picked up the next one—and before I knew it, I had read the entire series. I honestly think The Housemaid deserves a separate blog, because discussing it with fellow thriller lovers would be absolute chaos—in the best way. I’d love for all of you to join that discussion when it happens.
If you’re someone who wants to explore thrillers or don’t know where to start, here’s a beginner-friendly list—these books are engaging, gripping, and totally worth your time:
Thrillers have this power to make you forget everything else—time, sleep, even your surroundings. And once you find a good one, there’s no going back.
Now it’s your turn.
What’s your favourite thriller novel, and how did it make you feel while reading it? Share your thoughts in the comments here at Rent a Chapter—because thrillers are always better when we talk about them together. 📚🖤
