The Book That Started It All

If you think I’ve always been a book lover, let me stop you right there—it wasn’t always like this. I talk a lot about loving reading now, but there was a time when I genuinely thought books were boring. I was that person who would start a book and fall into a deep sleep within minutes. Reading just wasn’t my thing.
Back in middle school—around 5th to 9th grade—I could never finish the books from our school curriculum. No matter how hard I tried, I just couldn’t connect with them. And now, look at me—writing a blog about how much I love reading and encouraging others to read because it’s one of the best feelings in the world. Life is funny like that. So let me tell you where it all started.
I had a friend who loved reading. She used to bring novels to school and read them whenever she got the chance. One day, during a class that felt never-ending, I was so bored that I randomly picked up her novel and started reading. I don’t know what came over me, but something felt… different.
For the first time, I didn’t want to put the book down. I had to, of course—classes are important—but all I could think about was reading more once the bell rang. I remember waiting impatiently for class to end, just so I could go back to that story. And I was ridiculously happy, because that book was my first novel.
That first novel was Revolution 2020 by Chetan Bhagat. And after finishing it, I wanted more. I wanted to know what made novels so intriguing, so addictive—what was it about these stories that made people stay up all night reading? I guess I’m still looking for that answer… and it gives me another reason to keep reading. Slowly, I started buying novels. Back then, I mostly bought them from Amazon, and honestly, they were expensive. I didn’t know about any other options, and book renting wasn’t really a thing. I often wish it was—but anyway, I began building my own little book collection. Seeing those books, knowing I had read them and still had so many waiting for me, made me genuinely happy.
So yeah—this is my journey. From being someone who would fall asleep while reading, to someone who can’t sleep because she needs to know what happens in the next chapter.
If you’re someone who thinks reading isn’t for you, trust me—you might just be one book away from falling in love with it. Take your time, start small, and let the story find you.
Now I’d love to hear from you. What was your first novel, and how did your reading journey begin? Share your story in the comments here at Rent a Chapter—because every reader has a beginning, and every story matters. 💕
